Jerry Springer style acting out of the story of Jacob and Esau. Will plays the role of Jerry Springer, Ben the role of Esau, James the role of Jacob and Charlotte the role of Rebekkah. Alex and Leah are part of the wild American audience who propose questions to Jacob and Esau as well as cheering on Jerry (Will)

Will introduces the basic background to the story and the basic reason
behind why there is conflict within these 2 siblings. Will then introduces
Ben playing the role of Esau onto the stage. Ben explains why he is so upset
about what has gone on. Says he has the right to the birthright as he is the
oldest of the 2 siblings. Claims how he had just gone out to collect food in
the woods for his father Issac before obtaining the birthright and that
during this time Jacob deceived his father into believing him that he was
infact Esau.

This is the point where Will (Jerry) introduces Jacob onto the stage. Esau
gets off chair and in Jerry Springer style looks as if he is about to start
a fight. Alex playing the security guard comes on to stage to split it up.
James playing the role of Jacob explains his side of the story. He claims
that Esau had previously sold his birthright in return for a stew dinner and
therefore he owns the birthright. Jacob explains that his brother Esau is
too stupid to have the birthright and that it is better placed in the hands
of Jacob.

At this point Esau gets angry again and starts to lose his bottle, Jerry
introduces Rebekkah to the stage, the mother of the 2 boys to see her side
of the story. Charlotte playing the role of Rebekkah, to Esau’s surprise
backs up Jacob and admits to helping Jacob by dressing him in fur to fool
his father. This is the point where Esau is in shock and storms of the
stage. Will at this point asks the audience what would they do to resolve
the issue. This is the point where the drama stops and the Chanichim are
split into groups to discuss.

Jacob should have the birthright
Only way to settle conflict is through fighting
Have you had some kind of conflict on Kadimah so far

Chanichim must go to either yes or no corner depending on their stance. Following each statement, there should be a short 1 minute discussion on why they chose either side. (5 minutes)

Stage 2

Following this, in their groups, Chanichim must come up with some kind of conflict they might experience on camp such as a dispute in their dorm, someone pushing in the tuck shop line etc. and make a Jerry Springer Style show out of it with one person playing Jerry Springer who offers a resolution to the problem, and others playing the different characters involved in the conflict.

The sketches should be no more than 5 minutes long and are then shown to the other groups.

(15 minutes to plan + 20 to show + 5 extra = 40 minutes)

Stage 3

Alert Chanichim to where it is happening in the world and to simple facts such as that there are 300,000 reported children soldiers not much older than them, 6,000,000 have been wounded in warfare over last 10 years etc.

Split children back up into groups again. Quick discussion on their views on what they have just discovered and then introduce idea of gift boxes as a way of resolving it.

Each group gets a shoe box, they must decorate it and agree to put items in it throughout the rest of the course of Kadimah. This could be through letters, poems, artwork completed in session etc. These boxes are put in Kadimah Office for rest of Kadimah so Chanichim can access them and give small gifts.
