Important note regarding the copying of programmes
Aims / Objectives :
Aims
For chanichim to enjoy themselves and learn a bit about Israel, the different cultures and people there are and get to ea some Israeli type food!
Trigger :
Trigger 10 min
Give in tickets at the entrance (these were given out at the end of the ‘Going Abroad’ session).
Introduced to three different Israelis:
• Hassidic Jew from Jerusalem
• Kibbutznik from the Negev
• Soldier from Haifa
Each character introduces themselves and then takes 7 people away to their part of Israel.
Main part of the programme :
Method 30 min
Each place has a blank map of Israel where the chanichim have to try and locate where they are using a bit of blue-tack. After 10 mins in each place they switch to a new place.
Jerusalem – Show pictures of:
- The Kotel
- The shook
- Yad Vashem
Ask them what they know about each place and explain a bit about each place. Hand out pita and humous and talk about the fact that you keep a strict kosher diet, ask what can’t you eat?
The Negev – Explain a bit about the communal lifestyle and talk about the different jobs there are to do at kibbutz:
- picking fruit
- milking cows
- building ecological friendly mud huts
- working in the gan/kitchen
Give out some figs that you picked earlier.
Haifa – Ask the following questions and they have to guess if it’s true or false:
- Both women and men join the army when they are 18 years old (TRUE)
- Men serve for three years (TRUE)
- Women serve for one year (FALSE two years)
- Orthodox Jews do not have to join the army (TRUE)
- I.D.F stands for Israel’s Distinct Fighters (FALSE Israeli Defence Force)
- The IDF was formed in 1990 (FALSE 1948)
- It is formed of the Israeli Army, the Israeli Air Force and the Israeli Navy (TRUE)
Show some pictures and explain a bit about what you do in the army (fixing tanks) and give out falafel.
Conclusion :
Sikkum 5 min
Play fruit salad with the different places including Tel Aviv.
