Important note regarding the copying of programmes

Aims / Objectives :
Aims:
The chanachim should be able to relate the idea of Eve’s temptation with their own lives.
The chanachim should understand how temptation can often occur in the form of peer pressure and to be aware of others influences on them.

Trigger :
Trigger: 20 minutes

“Blind Date” with Adam and 3 Eves.
Recorded voice of “G-d” as Graham.

Questions:
1. What would you wear for our first date?

A: E1- I’d dress up in all my finery and bling it up to the max.
E2- I guess I’d just go with jeans and a top.
E3- Well, I’m actually very comfortable in my own skin!

2. What is your favourite animal and why?

A: E1- My favourite is a pit-bull terrier, they’re loud like me!
E2- I quite like monkeys, they aren’t too scary because they’re quite like humans.
E3- I love the mysterious qualities of snakes.

3. What would you make me to eat for a date and why?

A: E1- Well, I’d probably say spaghetti, we could eat it like they do in lady and the tramp…!
E2- Shepherds pie, it’s the only thing I know how to cook well.
E3- I’d serve a platter of fruit with melted chocolate, we could eat with our hands and feed each other!

G-d’s reminder:
Will you choose Eve number 1? She’s loud, proud and intimate. She’ll definitely put some bling in your life. Or will you go for Eve number 2? She’s a casual down to earth kind of girl who prefers to eat out. She’ll have you monkey-ing around. Or will it be Eve number 3? She enjoys dancing in her birthday suit and will tempt you with chocolate and mysterious ways. Adam, the choice is yours!

Adam chooses Eve number 3 and the date they are given is a week in the Garden of Eden.

Chanachim follow Adam and Eve into “Garden of Eden”(one room will be decorated).

Main part of the programme :
Discussion: 20-30 minutes

Split the kids into 4 or 5 groups, each with a madrich.
Give each group a copy of Genesis 2 (attached).

Madrichim should encourage discussion around these questions and topics:
• What do you think you would have done in Eve’s situation?
• Have you ever been tempted by someone or something and given in (even if you knew it wasn’t the right thing to do?)
• What do you think peer pressure is? What forms can it come in?
• If Eve hadn’t eaten the fruit, would we still be living in the Garden of Eden? Is there an inherent destructive side of human beings that would have ruined it in the end?
• Do you think it was a good thing that it happened?

Conclusion :
Sikkum: 10 minutes
Bring chanachim back together and in a circle. Ask them to bring out their bags of sweets. Get a show of hands for who ate the sweets and who did not.

Why did they or did they not eat the sweets?
What feelings did they get when eating the sweets?
-guilt?
-pleasure?
Do they think that we wanted them to eat the sweets? Is that why we gave them the temptation in the first place?
Do you think that G-d actually did want Adam and Eve to eat of the Tree of Knowledge, would he have put it there otherwise? Why do you think he put it there if he did not want them to eat of it?
