Important note regarding the copying of programmes
Aims / Objectives :
To realise the importance of negotiation and cooperation
Understand that this may be a way forward in interfaith relationships and coexistence with fellow human beings.
Trigger :
As the chanichim enter, they are split into 4 different teams. Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” will be playing in the background but no special effort will be made for them to listen to it.
They are told that they are four different tribes
• Oogawooga
• Pitogito
• Alananaguru
• Itchiyutu
Each tribe is given the following equipment
• One Yellow Ball
• One Red Ball
• Flour
• Water guns
• Water balloons
• Sweets
• Shaving Foam/silly string
The Tribes must come up with tribal dances and chants and something to distinguish themselves from the others. They will receive extra equipment depending on how good their dances, chants and costumes are.
Main part of the programme :
Game: 20 minutes
Each round, the tribes must submit one of their coloured balls (the other tribes aren’t to see this). Each outcome provokes different reactions and the aim is that the tribes talk to each other to decide which balls to throw and do not undermine other tribes (e.g. if they all decide to throw yellow to get sweets but then one decides to put a red in so it gets sweets and douses other in water!) The tribe who has collected the most sweets wins.
RRRR: All tribes throw flour
RRRY: Tribes who gave red ball throw water balloons
Tribes who gave yellow ball use shaving foam
RRYY: Tribes who gave red ball throw sweets
Tribes who gave yellow ball throw flour
RYYY: Tribes who gave red ball use water guns
Tribes who gave yellow ball throw sweets
YYYY: All tribes throw sweets
Conclusion :
Once negotiations are over and the kids are all giving each other sweets so that really, nobody wins, they will be told to take off their distinguishing costumes. They will then be told that really they were once all part of the same tribe but it split up and caused all this fighting and controversy.
At this point, an excerpt of the “I have a dream” speech will be played. This time they will be made to listen.
Now there is no discrimination and no difference they will all be given water guns/water balloons and allowed to have a friendly water fight.
