Important note regarding the copying of programmes
Aims / Objectives :
To get the chanichim to understand the glory and obedience of the army.
To explore the idea that of an army being both ethical and successful..
To lead the chanichim on a journey, where by they experience a thought process mapped out by us, without them realising they are being influenced.
The bring the chanichim to a point where they feel the need to rebel against authority due to the strength of the their own moral/ethical code.
Trigger :
Main part of the programme :
Method
This peulah occurs throughout the day, allowing for the necessary gravity and intensity of the topic. This will not interfere with any of the pre planned sessions, although will involve all members of the Nechalim tzevet giving all the chutzpah they’ve got to ensure it has the desired effect.
Tochnit as it stands:
(please note – throughout the day, chanichim serving will be commanded to do arbitrary physical tasks such as push ups, star jumps, running etc. This will not be forceful, rather encouraged in groups of 2 – 4 so they can compete in an encouraging fashion).
Also, around 6 chanichim will be selected at the beginning of the day, and introduced to the intelligence division of the IDF. They will have to sign the official secrets act, and are instructed to observe all of Nechalim, and keep notes about how they react to army service, what rumours are going around etc.
Throughout the day, each chanich/a will also be given a ‘secret mission’ by one of the officers, which they must complete and report back on at regular intervals. These are to hook all the chanichim into the peulah, and could range from reporting the every move of another madrich, to gathering certain supplies for an operation. If they succeed they are rewarded.
Wake up:
Madrichim enter dorms and instruct the chanichim to dress according to the strict code of the IDF (jeans and green Tshirt/khaki top). They are instructed that they are in platoon ____ (based on the name of their dorm) and will be entering basic training the moment they arrive in the cheder ochel that morning. It is also explained that the Madrichim will act as their superior officers, and should be referred to only as …now would be the time to know the Hebrew word. This is not explained as orders, rather in a friendly, excited and encouraging way.
Showers:
Chanichim are given a set time to shower, and must be present all together to go down to breakfast as a platoon.
Breakfast:
On entering the cheder ochel, all chanichim will visit the enrolement station, where they must sign their name to the IDF code of ethics, very similar to the actual code. They will then be provided with the accurate shoulder symbol for their unit (e.g. on dorm will be Golani, one Nachal…) Madrichim (dressed in full uniform of either green, grey or blue) will be manning the tables and queues, but all will be good natured. If people are roudy, they must be quietened down, but all discipline is done effectively not forcefully.
Ruach:
Ruach is working on the principle that it will be possible to separate Nechalim from the rest of camp for this morning. It will run as a chant learning/ obstacle course doing basic training session – with short mock army lessons and activities based on real Gadna/ Marava experience. The idea is to get the chanichim excited about the army, competing with one another and involved. There will be a system of rewards, verbal and hierarchical.
Israel room
As usual. If Noa could do anything specifically about the IDF it would be great.
Sessions with Yamim:
In all sessions, Madrichim must be referred to as (again that Hebrew word) and shown the appropriate level of respect. There should be a session option that is labelled ‘advanced training…for potential officers’. The Madrichim have pre selected the people to attend this session. In this session people are put through a more rigorous training session, but not simply physical, they also do logic puzzles, code breaking etc. At the end of the session, the few chanichim (10-13) are given a briefing. This is a talk about how they must be ready to do what needs to be done when the time comes, how important it is to work as a team and follow orders etc. They are also told that to be good officers they must be able to exert control over their peers. They are then set the mission that they cannot tell any of the army they will be the officer core, but rather must spend the time until they are appointed ensuring the obedience of the soldiers (making sure they do what they’re told basically – controlling the chanichim from the inside).
Free time:
This free time will be left to allow for personal missions to occur.
Netzer olami:
At the beginning of the peulah, the new officers are introduced and presented with their new badges. It is explained that they have control, to a certain extent, over the platoons, that their authority should be respected, and that if any problems occur, the soldiers should come directly to the commanding officers (that’s us lot). The rest of the programme will continue as planned. This is my program, so if I need to throw in some IDF shiz it’s easy enough to do.
Lunch:
At lunch, the officers sit on their own table. They are allowed to go up to eat first, and choose the order the other tables go up. There are some responsibilities though, they must keep people in order, man the lines, and lead Birkat Hamazon. They must even give the announcements at the end of lunch. One of these announcements includes that during the next free time, soldiers can only be in certain areas of Bramcote – e.g their dorms and one other room. There is no reason for this, it is simply arbitrary, but the officers must enforce it. If people do not abide by the rules, officers have the right to ‘punish’ them – in the form of push ups, star jumps etc. If the officers fail to do so, they will be punished more severely by the commanding officers (could be demoted?)
Free time:
As above.
Chuggim:
As usual. However officers are instructed that if people are messing about in sessions, it is their responsibility to keep them quiet and paying attention.
Tea:
During tea, the army is instructed to gather outside the tuck room to keep the plagim citizens in order. They must set up a check point outside the room (this won’t be too drastic, as they are plagim!) Each chanich/a must state their name and age before they are allowed to enter the line, and when lined up, soldiers will ensure they are reasonably quiet and demure. The officers will be watching over the soldiers, and making sure they are acting correctly. They are allowed to use tea (drinks and biscuits) as a reward for their platoons if they do well at this task. The officers have been told by their commanding officers that they will receive an even better reward at tea if they successfully control the army.
Imajewnation:
As normal. By the end of Imajewnation, the soldiers should be feeling pretty fed up of being told what to do the entire time by their peers. The officers should also be getting pretty hungry for power, and much more or much less willing to do what their commanding officers tell them. The free time following is announced to have been cancelled, due to bad behaviour, and therefore they will spend the time cleaning up the common room? Perhaps something else…we shall see what’s dirty. The officers must supervise, and do not have to clean at all. In fact, why not give them some sweets while we’re at it.
Conclusion :
Dinner:
Dinner sees the army graduation ceremony, where each chanich/a comes up to get their certificate of completion.
