Maslul Tikkun Olam session 4

Important note regarding the copying of programmes

Aims / Objectives :
Aims

• Continue the good work done on this maslul in the previous 3 sessions
• Change focus from the theoretical to practical
• Enthuse every chanich to want to help with tikkun olam, and empower them to become leaders within the tikkun in the the movement

Trigger :
Trigger – 10 mins

Tell the story of Peter Benenson, the founder of Amnesty International. Moral of story is not that Amnesty is “good” or “bad”. Moral is that one man can make a difference, and that all it takes is a bit of courage to take a stand, a bit of charisma to rally others to your cause, and a bit of co-ordination to sort out how to effectively campaign.

Main part of the programme :
Method – 60 mins

Chanichim will be planning a campaign of their own (they will have already picked something to campaign about in the previous maslul session). They will work in small groups (they can pick themselves who they work with, but groups should be 5 or fewer), and we will move through the three stages outlined above (courage, charisma and co-ordination).

Courage (10 mins): they have to assess what they think it is about the campaign they have picked that makes it important (5 mins brainstorming, 5 mins sikkum with input from groups).

Charisma (10 mins): They need to work out who to target, and how to target them. This might include via having sessions on camps, writing in newsletters, mass emailing their friends, writing actual letters, informal chats etc (10 mins).

Co-ordination (40 mins): Three things to do. First thing is to come together, sikkum last 10 mins (will take 5 mins). Then, we will work out some basic targets as a group (they may be financial, awareness-raising, to have a certain number of people on a mailing list etc) and work out which groups want to take on responsibility for a) budgeting and fundraising b) “media” (writing an article for LJY Newsletzer, and maybe LJ today, and something for the website, and any other ideas they have) and c) “the future” (future meetings, when and how the message is going to be spread, who is going to be in charge of what, how they are going to keep this going after the Seminar). If not enough groups, we can combine a) and c) probably. (25 mins in their groups).

Conclusion :
Sikkum – 5 mins

Come back together as a group, present what each group has done, co-ordinate future activities, be enthused and feel empowered by how much responsibility they have all taken on.
