Main part of the programme :
Method
1. Intro 10 mins
Introduce theme and aims of the Peula. Ask them to go around saying their ‘Name’ and ‘One thing parents might worry about when sending their children to camp’. This is to explore the concept that Chanichim are people who are cared and worried about. They are real PEOPLE!!
2. Definitions 15 mins
Using the board/flipchart, ask the group to explain what they understand by the term “Welfare”. Give out cards to everybody. Upon instruction ask them to turn over their cards and ask a few people to tell the group how they think the word links in to the concept of Welfare (Words on cards: Respect; Care; Safety; Responsibility; People; Security).
3. Guided Brainstorm 15 mins
On the board/flipchart, split up welfare into the following categories and ask them to give examples of specific cases: Emotional – Social – Physical – Mental – Religious
4. Scenarios 20 mins
Divide the group into 3 or 4 smaller groups. Go through the three different scenarios giving time to the Tzevet to discuss them first. Then try to draw out the themes and ideas written in the guide below
5. Legal Implications 15 mins
Bringing everybody back to one circle, use the board to run through the following points:
There are Legal Implications for our actions as Madrichim – it’s not just a movement bubble
Their Responsibility is not just for themselves but also for their movement
If you feel there is a problem - pass/move it on (Duty of Referral) eg Climbie case, or any other nightmare story involving social workers)
Duty of Care– the government, country, community and parents have expectations of them to not just give their children a good time and quality education (link in to Parents’ worries exercise)
Abuse of Power – can’t take Kavod for being a Madrich/a without taking responsibility as well
Be aware of Disclosure procedures
Neglect – Madrichim have a responsibility for the overall welfare of their Chanichim (link to the different types of welfare looked at in this session)
6. Movement Input 10 mins
At this point a member of the office team of the senior Tzevet will have time to talk through the welfare ladder and structure of their movement
Conclusion :
7. Sikkum 5 mins
Conclude by drawing together all the aims and content. Distribute handout
