Peulah Bet to Maslul Peer Hadracha: Doing Peer Leadership

Important note regarding the copying of programmes

Aims / Objectives :
Goals:
-To bring a higher level of peer leadership to LJY-Netzer.
-To help the shikvas bond and come closer together on a peer basis, with the opportunity to lead in various situations.
-To prepare for tzevet relationships.

Objectives:
-PPs will get to know themselves better and how they work on a team
-PPs will be able to observe each other and learn how to give feedback in a fair and honest method.

Trigger :
1: Last Session Review
-One person will review what we did last session, from their notes?

Main part of the programme :
2: Where you Sit is where you Stand
-Explain that everyone is at a town meeting (that only lasts 15 minutes) where they are to vote on a resolution on the percentage of non-Jewish students that Either must or should attend Jewish schools. The town meeting’s resolution will be binding for all Jewish schools in the town.

-Have participants make placards, use a speakers list, with 45 second speaking times, and have a break to write resolutions after 7 minutes.

-After 15 minutes move to voting procedures on all of the resolutions submitted.

3: Team Building Buildings Exercise

Have two teams (3 each, at least), and have each team plan for two minutes. THEN let the first team build for 5 minutes while the second team watches, then when their 5 minutes are up, team two builds for five minutes, while the other team watchs silently. Alternatively, have two full time observers and run the program once.

There is no talking after the two planning minutes.

The ‘goal’ is to build the highest tower out of spaghetti noodles and raisin or marshmallows and toothpicks as possible.
4: Evaluations and Observations
Have each team give an evaluation of each of their members and how well they built, their personality, etc. Then have the other team say what they saw about that team.

Conclusion :
5: Sikkum (or an evaluation of an evaluation)

Discuss the evaluations and how they went, if it was hard to hear people say that about them, etc.
