Important note regarding the copying of programmes

Aims / Objectives :
Discuss advertising, have a debate, design an advert

Trigger :
7:10 - “my name is…. And my favourite/worst advert is…..because….”

Main part of the programme :
7:15 – one person leaves the room.
Another person hides.
Everyone else switches seats.
The person comes back in and they have to guess who the missing
person is.

7:30 – split everyone into two groups.
One group supports advertising.
The other group opposes it.

7:45 – all come together and hold a court like debate. Get one person from each group to represent.Vaad act as judges and everyone else is the jury.

8:00 – BREAK

8:15 – split into 3 groups and design an ad.
Include catch phrase/slogan.
Has to be original.

8:30 – show the other groups the adverts.
Would it work in real life?

8:40 – discussion; is it acceptable to advertise items which are bad for your
health.
(England has banned smoking advertisements)
Israel/anti Israel
Should the media have a free will to say whatever they want.
Big Brother
Awareness adverts.
etc..

8:55 - 9:00 END

Conclusion :
In my youth group (JYSG) we end with announcements and songs

Resources:
Material e.g. pens/paper with which they can plan for the debate (7:30 and 7:45) and maybe also design part of an advert (mainly we wanted them to act out an advert, but they made posters or flyers too)

Notes:
There are timings including for this meeting. Normally we start the program at about 7:15 and end at about 9:00. The timings are estimates made before the program was run, they normally work out about right, but remember you can be a bit flexible.
